"I know what it takes to try and get out of it," he told BBC Scotland. "We were very unlucky last season."
"It would be horrible for myself but also for the club and all the other players as it's not just about me.
Billy Reid's side are just three points above Falkirk and are nine points adrift of the 32 points they had attained by this point last term.
I don't think we'll have to worry about that as we have enough in the locker to get us out of where we are
Dougrie Imrie
"It's a team game and I'd be disappointed if it happened again," said Imrie.
"But I don't think we'll have to worry about that as we have enough in the locker to get us out of where we are.
"At Hamilton, the gaffer just lets you get on with what he wants you to do but at Inverness it was a bit more complicated where the manager (Terry Butcher) was wanting other things done.
"But here, he just lets you play your football and that just helps everyone as we're not under any pressure here."
Imrie - who left the Highlands for Lanarkshire in January - played well in the 1-1 draw with Aberdeen which Accies finished feeling aggrieved the did not pick up the full three points.
They sit on just one victory - at Tannadice - in 14 matches, but the former Clyde player reckons if Accies can cut-out costly mistakes, the wins will come.
"If we can stop errors like the goal Aberdeen scored, then it'll help because we're strong at the back," he said.
"I thought we were brilliant against them in defence but we were a bit slack at the goal.
"We let them take a quick free-kick, they've got a cross in and Zander Diamond's finished with his left foot which isn't his strong one.
Highlights - Hamilton 1-1 Aberdeen
"We'll take the point but we were very disappointed in the end."
Imrie had a couple of other reasons for grievance - before his equaliser at New Douglas Park, Dons defender Diamond went in high on a challenge on the 26-year-old.
Then in the phase of play before Aberdeen got their goal, Jim Paterson fouled Imrie in the box but referee Stephen Finnie shook his head at Hamilton penalty appeals.
"I thought it was a penalty, but it wasn't to be," he said.
"But we've just got to plug on as we've got St Mirren next week so hopefully we'll be able to take something from that."
Indeed, Accies have Falkirk the week after that one - both are at home before going to Kilmarnock. So how crucial a period lies in wait for Imrie and his team-mates?
"Every game's massive at the moment but next week, we can't afford to lose anything then after that it's Falkirk so that's really the big game," he added.
"We'll take one game at a time. Everyone's fighting for each other and looking up the table rather than down.
"I think as long as we don't lose these two games because if we do, teams start climbing away from you.
"But I think we can get something from these games."
