Hamilton manager Billy Reid will hold talks with chairman Ronnie MacDonald to begin plotting a route back to the Clydesdale Bank Premier League after the club's relegation was confirmed on Tuesday night.
Accies lost 1-0 at St Johnstone while St Mirren beat Aberdeen at Pittodrie to open up a six-point gap with one game remaining.
Hamilton had raised hopes of an unlikely escape when they took 10 points from their previous four matches, but they were undone by familiar failings at McDiarmid Park.
Mark McLaughlin brought down Andy Jackson to earn himself a red card and hand Liam Craig the chance to net from the penalty spot in the 29th minute. With the likes of Nigel Hasselbaink out of contract, Reid will now have to rebuild his squad with the Irn-Bru First Division in mind.
Reid said: "I've given the players two days off, they are gutted. We will come in on Friday and assess where we are.
"I will meet the chairman tomorrow (Wednesday). We've got a plan A and a plan B."
